Becoming a patient

It should be easy to be a patient. Here is exactly what happens, in what order, and what we need from you.

Step by step

From referral to follow-up.

  1. The referral arrives

Your health centre sends the referral to us, or you send it yourself. We confirm receipt within three working days.

  2. Medical assessment

A specialist reads the referral and decides how urgent it is. If further tests are needed we contact you before calling you in.

  3. An appointment letter

You receive a letter with the date, time, address and what to do beforehand. If the time does not suit, change it yourself on My pages.

  4. The appointment

Allow 30–45 minutes. Bring identification and a list of your medicines. You always leave with a written summary.

  5. Treatment

If something needs doing it is booked during the appointment — you leave the clinic with a date, not with a promise of one.

  6. Follow-up

A follow-up with the same doctor. Results are reported to the national quality registries.

Common questions

What people most often ask

Care through the region’s choice-of-care scheme costs exactly the same with us as in the region’s own services, and counts towards the high-cost ceiling. If you use your insurance you pay the excess your insurer has set. Care you pay for yourself has a fixed price that you receive in writing before booking.

Yes. If you have a referral, free choice of care lets you decide where it is used, wherever you live. Ask your health centre to send it to us, or send it yourself — a photograph is enough.

It depends on the speciality. For hip and knee it is normally two weeks from the decision to operate; for cataract, three to four weeks. The current wait for each clinic is in your letter and on My pages.

All patient harm is reported under lex Maria and investigated by our chief medical officer. You are entitled to compensation from the patient insurance scheme LÖF, and we help you with the claim. You can always give feedback directly to us.

Yes, always. For longer conversations we recommend it: two people hear more than one. If you need an interpreter we arrange one free of charge — tell us when you confirm the appointment.

Do you have a referral waiting?

Send it to us and we will be in touch within three working days. A photograph of the referral is enough.
